How Will Fidelity/banks get OG holders to give up their private keys/bitcoin
Obviously the ease of use through a brokerage is appealing, however it seems like what is being built is to gain control of BITCOIN. Most of us are savy...but what if they start offering massive incentives for people to move bitcoin to them.....that is the only way they will be able to take control of the network. The only way I see it is through partnerships. You hold 1-100+ bitcoin and send to fidelity you get free first class upgrades on airlines etc....that would be such an easy way to gain control of private keys through incentives.
[uncensored-r/Bitcoin] I need help with private key bitcoin core

Question about double spending and the "Bitcoin puzzle transaction ~32 BTC prize to who solves it"
If someone eventually managed to brute force Puzzle number 64 (and beyond) can't someone who's monitoring the keys just use Pollard Kangaroo once the public key is broadcasted and also sweep it with a higher transaction fee since double spending is still an issue with Bitcoin? If thats the case how can you prevent someone from sweeping the same key if you're both in possession of the same private key? Reminder to hold your own private keys - every bitcoin that is held by an institution is a bitcoin that has had its security weakened by being subjected to bureaucratic and political decision-making. “Not your keys, not your bitcoin".
Purely thought experiment — NFC implanting a 2FA key / master password / Bitcoin private key?
I have read the rules. I was taking a shower today and I had a shower thought: what level of security could an NFC implant have when used as a master password of sorts? This is a purely theoretical scenario and I have no actual use for this, but it's an interesting thought. So let's pretend you're trying to protect your sensitive info from law enforcement.
Information to protect: anything. Passwords, bitcoin wallet, sensitive information.
Threads: law enforcement
Vulnerabilities: passwords or 2FA keys being compromised. If you store them physically on paper, there's a chance they'll be lost or stolen. They could also easily be found.
The idea is simple: if you were to do this yourself, nobody, including LE, would know that you have an NFC tag inside of you. Nobody would even suspect it. Right? LE doesn't go around checking people for NFC tags under their skin. If you bought this product using a prepaid card that was purchased by a friend, then shipped the product to another friend's house without telling them what's in it, then implanted it yourself, then destroyed all evidence of the implanted tag... nobody would know. The tag could store a variety of things. Maybe a bitcoin key for a 1 of 2 multisig address, so that in case your other key was lost or destroyed, you could still access your data. Whatever. I'm wondering what the limitations of this technique are. Just wanted to discuss this with you all and get some more thoughts about it. Kind of a neat idea!
Recovering private key of change address from Bitcoin Core
Hello, I am trying to help my mostly Bitcoin-ignorant friend with the following problem: A long time ago, he mined some BTC using Bitcoin Core client with unecrypted wallet.dat. Some years later, he added encryption to his client and sent some BTC to someone else ("transaction X"). Then he forgot the password of his wallet.dat. He had backed up the original (unencrypted) wallet.dat file so I managed to extract private key of his mining address from it and send his funds safely elsewhere. However, during "transaction X", around 0.7 BTC ended on a new "change address". I cannot access the private key of this "change address" because it was generated after the wallet was encrypted and he forgot the password. Or is there a way to find this private key, e.g. are the change addresses PKs in Bitcoin Core generated using some non-random derivation algorithm? I have access to both versions of the wallet.dat file (original unecrypted and later encrypted before "Transaction X") EDIT: Thanks everyone. The wallet was old (non HD) type so the change address' private key is probably lost forever, unless my friend remembers his password.
