Storj Tokens (SJCX) are distributed on the Counterparty platform - how is that feasible long term with higher transaction fees due to bitcoin blocksize contraint?

How to enter SJCX (Counterparty) to STORJ (ERC20) conversion/migration on Bitcoin.tax?

Assuming it's not a tax event, what is the best way to track the exchange of SJCX (Counterparty) to STORJ (ERC20) on Bitcoin.tax. The goal is to retain the SJCX cost basis and acquisition date (to differentiate long and short term gains/losses)? Is there a clean way to do this on Bitcoin.tax? Is there a messy way? Should I just keep the original SJCX, and manually enter the price if the STORJ is disposed of?
Here's a reference blog post, and I assume the answer to my question would be applicable to other cryptocurrencies that swap like this.

STORJ: " We recently announced a migration of the Storj token, STORJ (formerly SJCX) to the Ethereum ERC20 standard from the Counterparty protocol on the Bitcoin blockchain. This move helps us reduce transaction fees for the Storj community while also increasing functionality and usability."

Earn money by renting out unused hard drive space.

Storj is basically a decentralized version of Dropbox. They have some advantages like security and safety, but disadvantages over speed and space available.
The instructions are simple and clear on the website, so I won't waste my breath.
Extra info:
You get paid the first time at the end of the month (or beginning... anyways, the payments are made once per month).
You get paid in SJCX, a cryptocurrency that can be converted to BTC (bitcoins) in a few clicks and then to $/EUR etc. with a couple more clicks. I can provide info about this process if anyone's interested.

September Storjcoin X Giveaway!

The giveaway is now CLOSED. Within the day following, we will divide the 25,000 SJCX evenly among all the participants that qualify and will send them out. Also, the randomly chosen winner will be announced and be sent their 25,000 SJCX. Results will be published on /Rad_Decentralization. Thanks to all who participated!
/Rad_Decentralization has been extremely supportive of Storj from the start and as a thank you we would like to give you all a little something back. Your head moderator, ThatchNailer, contacted us with the idea for a Storjcoin X (SJCX) giveaway - so that’s exactly what we’re going to do!
Before we get into the details of the giveaway, here is a brief rundown of what Storj is all about:
Storj is a decentralized cloud storage platform where users are able to rent out their extra hard drive space on their computer to a network. In return for this space, they are paid in cryptocurrency by other users who store files on their hard drive. Storj is also a platform that facilitates the creation of decentralized applications on top of it.
Some general questions about Storj:
Where can I buy Storjcoin X?
What if a host’s hard drive goes offline for some reason?
Files are “shredded” and stored at a redundancy that you, the file owner, set. Because the file is shredded, no one node ever has a full copy of your file. If a node were to go to down, that node would fail a ‘check-in’ for that file piece, so the network would take another copy of that file on the network and host on another new, available node - thereby maintaining redundancy.
How do I know my files are safe?
One of our goals is to have files be encrypted client-side to ensure no person or entity is able to view, modify, copy, or steal a file whether in transfer or while hosting it.
What applications have been released?
We have an open beta right now on our first application Metadisk , which is our file-sharing app, and that can be found at node1.metadisk.org and a tutorial video on how to use it can found here. DriveShare, which allows you to rent out your excess hard drive space, should have a working prototype being released in the near future. To follow development, we are open source so you can view our code and progress on our GitHub page.
Why create your own cryptocurrency instead of integrating with Bitcoin?
We initially considered using Bitcoin, but its blockchain isn’t able to hold the amount of information we need it to. Storjcoin X’s blockchain will act as a store of meta (i.e. ‘pointers’ for where data is held on the network as opposed to the data itself). This cuts back on blockchain bloat but still allows the network to store the location of the actual files.
And now, for the giveaway!
Because Storjcoin X (SJCX) is the primary currency to be transacted on top of the Storj platform, it’s only right that we give our supporters a little taste of it!
We are holding a 50,000 SJCX giveaway in this subreddit that will be lasting a month long. Of this 50,000 SJCX, 25,000 will be given to one person chosen randomly at the end of this month (September 30th). The other 25,000 will be split equally among the number of participants we have in the this giveaway and will be sent out at the end of the month!
Criteria for entry:
To enter, simply follow this criteria and post your Counterparty-supported wallet address (for most people, this is www.counterwallet.co) in the comments!
We hope to see you all participate. If you have any questions about the giveaway or project in general, we would be happy to answer them! If you wish to find more information about our project or how to get involved, our website and forums are great places to start. You can also find us on Twitter, Facebook, reddit, and Google+. Feel free to shoot us an email as well at [email protected]. We appreciate the endless support we have received from this subreddit, so we hope we exceed all of your expectations! :)
A big thank you to the moderators for reaching out to us as well - this would not have happened if they hadn’t contacted us!

SJCX and STORJ: A FAQ

There appears to be a lot of confusion concerning SJCX and STORJ, so here are few quick facts for the uninitiated. Please feel free to correct any errors or misconceptions.
How many SJCX exist? 500 million SJCX exist, but only about 51 million are in "circulation". The remaining 449 million are held by Storj Labs. SJCX are tokens issued as part of the Counterparty protocol, which is itself built on top of Bitcoin.
What is STORJ? Storj Labs decided to transfer the counterparty SJCX tokens to ERC20 tokens issued on the Ethereum network. The reasons for making this change are that Bitcoin fees are too high, and that it often takes exceedingly long times for transactions to be confirmed. The conversion from SJCX to STORJ will be done on a 1:1 ratio.
When will it be possible to convert SJCX to STORJ?. Storj Labs will provide a means of doing so within 4 weeks following the completion of their token sale, which ended May 25. Whenever 1 SJCX is converted to STORJ, the original SJCX will be "burned".
How many STORJ coins will exist? All 500 million SJCX will be convertible to STORJ. As part of this process, Storj Labs has promised to burn 1 additional SJCX for each STORJ sold during the crowdsale. Given that the price of STORJ in the crowdsale was variable, and depended on volume, about 75 million STORJ were sold (the exact number has yet to be published). Thus, if everyone converts their SJCX to STORJ there will be a maximum of about 425 million STORJ in existence. Given that 51 million SJCX are in "circulation" today, and that an additional 75 million STORJ were sold during the crowdsale, about 126 million STORJ will be in circulation initially. The remaining 299 million STORJ will be held by Storj Labs.
What will happen to the approximately 299 million STORJ that are held by Storj Labs? Storj Labs has promised to place 80% of these coins into time-locked smart contracts, making them inaccessible for at least 6 months time.
Will the price of SJCX and STORJ be different? No. SJCX and STORJ are in essence the same and will have exactly the same price. Think of one as a 1 USD paper bill, and the other as a 1 USD coin. They are both legal tender, but have different physical forms. Though some vending machines might not accept the 1 USD coin, you can always go to the post-office or a bank and exchange it for a bill.
What will happen if I don't convert my SJCX to STORJ? Storj Labs will only provide support for the process of transfering SJCX to STORJ, and will not support the SJCX coin afterwards. There is no reason not to convert from SJCX to STORJ.
Will exchanges accept both SJCX and STORJ? We don't know. It seems probable that exchanges will initially accept both SJCX and STORJ, and that these will be traded on a single STORJ market. It also seems probable that exchanges will cease to accept SJCX at some point in the near future.

Why won't Storj Labs provide an update on the STORJ token sale and SJCX migration?

There have been repeated requests both here on Reddit and on the Rocketchat community forum for Storj Labs to summarize the results of the token sale and the migration from SJCX to STORJ. This information is really basic, such as: How many STORJ and SJCX are in circulation? Where can we find the official number that are in circulation? How many STORJ are time locked, and for how long? When will coinmarketcap be updated with the correct number of STORJ in circulation? How many STORJ will Storj Labs introduce into circulation per year?
Not a single official communication has come from Storj Labs regarding these issues, and there has not been any pronouncement in social media by Storj Labs employees. The question is: Since it should be trivial to provide this information, why haven't they?
Here are the possibilities I have come up with. If you have any other theories, please post them below.

A call for Storj Labs to burn unused coins from the crowdsale

A call for Storj Labs to burn unused coins from the crowdsale
I write this letter asking Storj Labs to consider burning the unused SJCX created during the initial crowdsale. It is my opinion that the uncertainty surrounding the fate of these unused coins will affect adoption of the Storj protocol and utilisation of the storage network.
Before trying to defend this position, I would fist like to say that I am a long time supporter of Storj: I bought into the initial coin offering, I participated in test groups A and B, I have alpha/beta tested many versions of their software, and I have filed a large number of bug reports on github. I am in general very happy with the development team, who are extremely transparent, kind, and forthcoming. Over the past two years, I have come to trust them.
I will start by trying to summarize the crowdsale and the creation of SJCX. Storj (later Storj Labs) created 500,000,000 SJCX tokens on the Counterparty platform. A closed pre-crowdsale occurred that exchanged bitcoin for SJCX at a fixed rate. An open crowdsale then followed which also gave participants SJCX at a fixed bitcoin price. According to the terms and conditions, the coin distribution is
This means that after Storj exchanged SJCX for BTC at a fixed rate to the crowdsale participants, they then took an additional 30% SJCX (not backed by BTC) to be used for development and community efforts. In the end, the total amount of SJCX in circulation is now listed as 49,518,143 SJCX.
Only about 1/10th of the total supply of SJCX has been distributed, and Storj Labs has the keys to access the undistributed coins. This is unprecedented. The only similar case I can think of is Ripple, where 1/3 of XRP has been distributed, and where Ripple Labs owns the remaining 2/3. As MaidSafe has demonstrated, when there are extra coins lying around, they have a tendancy to get spent...
This situation has, in my opinion, had a negative impact on the promotion of the Storj network and protocol, and also has caused many not to contribute with beta testing and the contribution of resources to the network. These criticisms can be found in many discussion threads on Reddit, and occasionally within the team Slack. In particular:
  1. Some think that Storj is a scam. They believe that the founders will eventually sell off the remaining 9/10 of SJCX for their profit.
  2. Some worry about inflation of the SJCX money supply if these coins were spent, and the ensuing loss of value of their investment.
  3. Some think that Storj will use these unused coins to buy storage space from farmers that they will then sell to the public. The current business model is to buy storage space at 0.60 SJCX and sell it at 1.0 SJCX. In this scenario, the 0.6 SJCX would actually be free to Storj Labs.
  4. Some find that the lack of a clear plan concerning the remaining coins reflects poorly on Storj Labs management.
I personally do not believe any of the above criticisms, but that is not the point: The fact is that that many people do hold these opinions and this hurts the Storj ecosystem overall.
I call on Storj Labs to provide a plan on what the remaining 9/10 of SJCX will be used for. If the intention is that these coins will always be off limits, then the I ask that these be permanently burned. If Storj Labs would like to keep these as some sort of emergency developer fund, then I ask that they keep a reasonable number (15%?) and burn the rest. If Storj Labs would like to use these as incentives for large corporations to use the Storj planform, they should outline how this might be done. If Storj Labs thinks that this is not important and that we should continue trusting them, at a minimum, they should clarify the situation concerning coin creation and use on their website.
Sincerely, Lunokhod
CORRECTION
I misunderstood a fundamental aspect of the crowdsale and distribution of SJCX that Shawn was kind enough to clear up for me. The coin distribution is the following:
Total SJCX created 500,000,000
Developer fund (15%) 75,000,000
Community fund (15%) 75,000,000
Bitcoin sales (70%) 350,000,000
Status of bitcoin sales SJCX
Distributed (during crowdsale) ~45,000,000
Undistributed ~305,000,000
Thus, even though Storj Labs still controls about 9/10ths of all SJCX, now, my position is that they burn ONLY those SJCX that were not distributed during the crowdsale (about 305,000,000 SJCX). In doing so, Storj Labs would then control about 3/4 of all SJCX (which is still alot). If any additional funds are required for opening micropayment channels, these could easily be taken from either the developer or community fund.

A SJCX distribution proposal

In the latest Storj blog post concerning the transition from the Counterparty platform to Ethereum, it was noted that Storj Labs was considering burning a portion of the undistributed SJCX coins from the initial crowd sale, and that they were also considering different options to distribute the remaining undistributed coins. As Storj Labs is still in the phase of "thinking" about how to do this, I propose a distribution plan to move the conversation forward.
As a reminder, the original distribution plan for SJCX, based on the terms of the original crowd sale, is the following:
Total SJCX created 500,000,000
Developer fund (15%) 75,000,000
Community fund (15%) 75,000,000
Bitcoin sales (70%) 350,000,000
The approximate situation today is
Current status SJCX
Distributed ~50,000,000
Undistributed ~450,000,000
Most of the 50,000,000 distributed coins came from the original crowd sale (Bitcoin sales), with a smaller amount coming from the other two sources. I will assume that 5,000,000 SJCX from each of the developer and community funds were distributed, but it is not easy to find this information given that these funds do not have dedicated addresses. Thus, about 70,000,000 coins are left in each of the developer and community funds. At current prices (1 SJCX = 0.37 USD), the value of these coins comes to about 27 million USD in each of the two funds, which is a lot of money. Given that it is not unreasonable to expect a 10-fold increase in price following widespread adoption of the Storj network, the amount of money in these funds is obscene. The amount left in the bitcoin sales category is unfathomable.
My SJCX distribution proposal is the following:

Recommendations? What to do with my SJCX

I have some SJCX on my counterwallet account, any suggestions what to do with them? Is it possible to trade them for bitcoin/ethernum and if it is then where it is possible to exchange them? The password was lost for many months, but today I luckily found it from my old laptop chrome plugin :D

I've been building a free crypto portfolio visualization web app called PasteTrader.com. I'm working on it tonight, would appreciate any feedback. [x-post r/CryptoCurrency]

Dear BitcoinMarkets,
I've been building a free web-app called Paste Trader for the past month or so. I've been pushing feature changes near-daily but I'm sort of just following my own wants & needs. Design-wise too, obviously.
Basically I've been building it in a bubble -hah
Any feedback, positive or negative would be greatly appreciated.
Any questions please comment. Last production update was 10pm EST on Feb 10th.
PasteTrader.com - Crypto Visualizer
It’s a tool to visualize one's portfolio history using just deposit, withdrawal, and trade history exported from one of the 78 exchanges supported by [CryptoCompare](www.cryptocompare.com). There’s no API keys, no login. When you refresh, the whole thing resets. Once you’ve imported your data, you can export and share a raw or encoded .txt file with anyone and they can reload the portfolio history using that file and a password in seconds (samples below).

The sample data works well, I'm still working on some bugs on the rest of the import methods.

Mobile isn't supported yet, this is meant to be more of a desktop activity. Sorry.

How many coin nodes are you running?

Greetings all. I own about 20 different cryptocurrencies, purchased a couple of months ago when I realized that I'd made 10x gains in Bitcoin over a 2-year period and I wanted to diversify where I put my profits from it.
My question: It's common knowledge that you should store your own coin and control your private keys. But that's a LOT of different software and hard drive space, isn't it? Like let's say that, hypothetically, I want to get the software and create private wallets for NEO, ETH, EOS, PIVX, DASH, MYST, ZEC, ARK, SYS, IOTA, SC, GNT, SJCX, MAID, NXT, STEEM, DBG, FCT, and EBST. That's a LOT of bandwidth and hard drive space.
So in this case, what's the best option for keeping your keys? Download the software, get the wallet, write your keys down offline, and delete the software? Or continue to run nodes? I hope someone finds this helpful!

Earn about $18 by making 10 twitter posts and 10 forum comments

This may sound convoluted for some, but it may be an exciting opportunity for others so please bear with me.
Storj (pronounced "storage") is a new technology related to bitcoin. As part of a promotion, they are providing 400 SJCX (Storj coins) to people who make 10 twitter posts and 10 comments on their forum in the next week - the promotion ends January 4.
400 SJCX is currently valued at $18.
Here are the steps if you're interested in getting this payout:
  1. Read the original task post on the Storj forum.
  2. Complete the task and collect 400 SJCX
  3. Deposit the SJCX into an account at www.poloniex.com where you can sell it for bitcoin
  4. Send the bitcoin to an exchanger who will give you money for it, like www.circle.com or www.coinbase.com
As a side benefit, you may choose to become an early adopter of Storj. I won't explain it to you here, but I'm thinking you'll figure out what it is in the process.
NOTE: I am not employed by or related to the Storj project in any way other than by being interested. I have never received promotional consideration from them. (but I'm totally willing to sell my soul for SJCX.)

When a token moves from Counterparty to ERC20, how do you enter it on Bitcoin.tax?

Sorry, this is basically a repost, since I didn't get a response to the original (URL at bottom).
Some crypto tokens have migrated from the Counterparty platform to ERC20 tokens. I assume the action of submitting the old CP token and receiving the new ERC20 token isn't a taxable event, but I'm unsure how to deal with this change on Bitcoin.tax.
Can you please advise on how I should enter this on Bitcoin.tax?

Trading advice from /u/Nooku

This post is based on ETH trading and the side-effects ETH is going to bring.
Skeptics are going to hate this because "trading advice from the internetz is never good". I totally agree because the world and thus the internet is full of idiots.
My main message to everyone is: the altcoin market will go through the roof during next week.
Reason being:
ETH is going to gain a lot of traction due to Homestead and exchanges opening up ETH trading. Meanwhile Bitcoin is going to crash against the USD because buy support will fall like a stone when FIAT no longer has to pass through BTC. During all this mania, the altcoin market will be filled with FOMOs temporarily driving the altcoins to galaxies far away.
If you don't think it will, this post is not for you.
But if you do think it will and don't really know which picks to make, this post makes the job easy for you.
I've gone through ALL of the Poloniex coins and these are the picks that will pretty much guarantee positive results if you distribute your funds equally. (sidenote: ETH being the exception of which you obviously would want to hold substantially more).
So here are the picks:
ETH (additional to your main investment), SJCX, FCT, SYS, XMR, SC, LTC, STR, MAID, BTS, GMC, ETH, DASH, (USD).
That's it.
Now, for those who want to know the reasons behind each one of these:
ETH (0.02843) : Homestead release is going to push this through the roof
SJCX (0.00023618) : Little special one, it's a cloud storage system. System is in testing phase and will go really live somewhere in March, devs seem to be very interested in ETH and might announce ETH implementation somewhere in the near future. It has news in the pipeline that will be extra reacted on during the mania. During times when ETH is going through the roof (next week) it's always nice to have any coin that's (even remotely) related to ETH.
Additionally: a lot of its coins weren't fully sold at the IPO and they've already hinted they're thinking of burning these unsold coins, which will make each individual coin substantially more valuable.
FCT (0.00688025) : This one has been on a crazy ride. And when ETH and alts are going through the roof, FCT will get on for another crazy ride to other galaxies. Just make sure you dump it on time, because I have no idea what this shit is except that it makes the chinese crazy. Will definitely be far up at the end of next week, which will be a good moment to secure your profits.
SYS (0.00000801) : A good one to buy for its name. When things go crazy and people are pumping coins in the trollbox, SYS is a name that sticks in the head. Buy this one for only that reason, trust me.
XMR (0.003126) : Monero, has a pretty wide fanbase, fairly solid coin. Will always go up in a bullish altcoin market.
SC (0.00000022) : SiaCoin is a real "small cap" coin. Trading in the 2 digits satoshis. This is the kind of coin that rises a bit more easily due to its low price. It has some decent volume and has a good chance of double up during the mania.
LTC (0.0078510) : Litecoin, a classic. People might hate this one in my list. Litecoin is dead, right? But since Bitcoin will be crashing against the USD next week, I'm extremely curious what Litecoin is going to do. If the Litecoin devs are seeing Bitcoin is on fire, they might decide to lift the blocksize limit just to see what happens. This is just something I don't want to miss out on. And it's a pretty stable coin so it won't hurt to hold it. Last but not least: if anything big goes wrong in the Bitcoin network (very bad backlog of unconfirmed transactions), the most-riske averse Bitcoiners will opt to transfer funds through Litecoin instead of any other coin.
STR (0.00000539) : I want to hold at least one coin as a real wildcard and when all of the other coins here above are up, STR is a good candidate to pick up some traction by the FOMO crowd. It has good volume, an active community that will try to pump it a little bit. But also an active development team that can still bring in some real and unexpected news. Overall, a good wildcard I believe in.
MAID (0.000265) : The crowd just loves this one. It's cool, new, and just like my other picks it brings some new stuff on the table. It's always up there with high volumes. Definitely one that'll go up next week.
BTS (0.00001235) : Bitshares, again, same story as the ones above: long history, decent community, active development, good volume. Goes up.
GMC (0.00004334) : Gamecoin, a coin. This is what I would call a real altcoin. It doesn't do much different from Bitcoin, but it targets a specific public and has a good fan base. I noticed this one follows the trend of ETH fairly closely. And since ETH is going through the roof, I expect GMC to do nothing less.
DASH (0.01099112) : Again one that has had a good ride in the past few months, when alt markets go up, dash goes up.
USD (412.2 USD/BTC) : (only for those wanting to buy back BTC at lower prices) Bitcoin is going to crash against the USD so it's an idea to trade in some BTCs for USDs to buy back at way lower prices (if you would still want those back then).
Good luck, don't thank me yet, you can do that at the end of next week.

Over $1000 investment needed to earn storj coins???

According to this article (6 months old) I need 10,000 SJCX in my counterparty wallet in order to earn anything in the final testing phase. Is this true?
http://cryptomining-blog.com/?s=storj
If so, I'm out until launch if ever. Storj should be rewarding the small contributors to get the most distributed network, not the big orgs with huge number of TB and a fat wallet or storj will face the same concentration issues bitcoin is facing with asic mining.
If true, how will rewards change on launch?
Thanks.

Want to share some of my bets with this awesome community!

Been lurking for a while, but finally made an account for sharing some of my bets. I've been trading and investing for about ten years. I mostly lost for the first five years, broke even for the following two, and have enjoyed significantly more success in the last three.
I use a combination of fundamental analysis (though not in the traditional sense of the word), chart reading (though I wouldn't call it technical analysis...I mostly use Google Finance), and gut feel.
I subscribe to a trend-following-like model of risk control. I make small bets with relatively tight stops and get stopped out frequently. When I'm right, I usually let the trade run for months or even years, and make significantly more in one trade than I lost in all the others.
My losing bets are too numerous to count, though usually unremarkable because they're small. Some of my biggest winning bets in the past few years have been long TSLA, long Bitcoin, long BLD calls, and short USO.
I'm up roughly 500% for the past 3 years (combined). I've been increasing my position size recently due to more consistent success and a larger account size.
Some of my current bets:
Long TLT calls, long GLD puts, long Bitcoin (with the occasional short trade), long SJCX (Storjcoin cryptocurrency), long Ripple (cryptocurrency), long XCP (Counterparty cryptocurrency), long Stellar (cryptocurrency). I think I still have some Dogecoins laying around somewhere too ;)
Happy to discuss any of my current bets, or general investing philosophy!

Sorry.
